After lackluster sales (830,000 sold in the US since launch) and in anticipation of a Playstation Vita launch later this year Nintendo has announced that it will drop the price of its 3DS portable to $169.99 (US) on August 12th 2011.
Nintendo has always been good to their customers and this time its no different. With the price drop Nintendo is announcing an early adopter program for those of us who purchased the system before the drop in price. Through this program you will be entitled to download 20 free games from the eShop.
To qualify for this which Nintendo is calling the “Nintendo 3DS Ambassador” program you simply need to connect your 3DS to the eShop once before the end of August 11th 2011 (EST) which will register you into the program.
The 20 free games are combined of 10 NES Virtual Console games and 10 Game Boy Advance Virtual Console games. The availability of these downloads will be staggered between September 1st and the end of calendar year 2011.
Some of the games that will be available include: Super Mario Bros.™, Donkey Kong Jr.™, Balloon Fight™, Ice Climber™, The Legend of Zelda™, Yoshi’s Island™: Super Mario™ Advance 3, Mario Kart™: Super Circuit, Metroid™ Fusion, WarioWare™, Inc.: Mega Microgames and Mario vs. Donkey Kong™.
So if you are in the market for a 3DS you might want to wait until the price drop to save some cash unless the downloadable games strikes you as a must have.
